Structure and Material
A 3-dimensional ellipse-pattern is translated into planar laser-cut steel elements coated with FRP-skin (Fibre reinforced plastic). But reconsidering the costs and the waste of material, it was necessary to find a comparatively simple system for the structure, reflecting the simple design of the pavilion.
FRP – sandwiches were chosen as a suitable technology for frequent mounting and dismounting. Furthermore the whole structure is much lighter than the steel version, which is a great advantage in terms of shipping the pavilion.

After discussing the FRP-version with the structural-engineer and the FRP-companies, the floor-, walls- and roof-panels of the pavilion were dimensioned with 15 cm thickness, including a two-sided 0.7 cm thick FRP-coat, with a white finish enclosing a 13.6 cm foam core. In case of wide-spanstructures the weak points of the foam core can be supported with built-in steel plates.
